Sample Coincident Data from Earth-observing Space Sensors for the Mount Oyama Eruptions
This page provides an organized structure for access to coincident data files (data acquired as close to the same date and time as possible) on this CD-ROM:
The Data and Information Access Link (DIAL) and Collage tools provide digital data processing to display the metadata as text and the processed data as an image or an array. Collage is provided on this CD; a link to the DIAL Web site is also provided.
Use the menu bar to go to the Tools page for step-by-step instructions for using the Collage and DIAL tools.
Disclaimer: NASA offers Web sites and Web pages imbedded in the text, for additional information regarding instruments and data. Web access is required to reach these sites. Link existence and contents are not under the control of the EOSDIS Science Operations Office.

Information about ASTER sample data for 19 July 2000 on this CD:
ASTER Data Directory on this CD for actual HDF-EOS files
The ASTER L1B full granule contains 60- by 60-km Level
1B multispectral data. The ASTER L2 full granules cover the same area.
While clouds cover part of the island,
locally clear air allows mapping of ash-fall areas
as well as other land cover features.
Most of the image covers the surface of the ocean. Digital data for 29 August is not available from the EOS Data Gateway (EDG) (as of 29 October 2001), or from the GDS in Japan (as of 29 October 2001). Additional information about ASTER data:

CERES Data Directory on this CD for actual HDF-EOS file This data sample (coincident with MODIS and MISR data samples) is a subset of a CERES Level 2 ES8 (24 hour) granule. This data sample is NOT image format data. CERES data are geolocated, but are not in the format required to generate an image using general tools. Additional information about CERES data:

Information about MISR sample data on this CD:
MISR Data Directory on this CD for actual HDF-EOS files. On the Web site (http://eos.nasa.gov/outreach/), this directory includes other MISR GRP data samples. The sample data sets are subsets of full orbit
files (granules). Each subset contains three blocks of data (block numbers
62, 63, and 64). This data sample (coincident with MODIS and CERES data samples) includes
the southern part of Honshu and offshore islands,
and shows the latter stages of the eruption and associated smoke/aerosols of the plume.

Information about MODIS sample data on this CD:
MODIS Data Directory on this CD for actual HDF-EOS files
The L1B subset data sample (coincident with MISR and CERES data samples) is
centered on the Japanese island of Miyakejima and clearly shows clouds,
the major eruptive plume and resulting aerosols,
and features of the Japanese mainland.
The L2 granules are full granules.

Information about MOPITT sample data on this CD:
MOPITT Data Directory on this CD for actual data file
The MOPITT subset data sample dated 20000829,
centered on the Japanese island of Miyakejima, shows
the carbon monoxide (CO) atmospheric gas concentrations as affected by the eruptions.
The MOPITT samples dated 20000822 to 20000828 show
the "normal" CO atmospheric gas concentrations in the days
just prior to or at the start of the 28 August eruptions.
The subsets cover the same area as the CERES subset.
These data samples are NOT image format data; they are geo- and time-referenced.

Information about TOMS sample data 19 August 2000 on this CD:
TOMS Data Directory on this CD for actual data file
The
Earth Probe TOMS
subset data samples are
centered on the Japanese island of Miyakejima and clearly show
the eruptive ash aerosols and sulfur dioxide (SO2) atmospheric gas from the 18 August eruptions to the south of the island.
This data sample is NOT image format data.
