Information for Granule MOD04_L2.A2000242.0140.002.2000264223516.hdf on the EOSDIS Data Sampler #2
This granule contains the numerous MOD04 Scientific Data Sets (SDSs). Used for many scientific studies, the MODIS Troposphere Aerosol product contains measurements of the optical thickness of the atmosphere over land and of ocean and aerosol size distribution over the ocean. No geographical subsetting was performed, but data are masked for land (non-ocean) or ocean (non-land) conditions. The data are contained in many HDF SDSs within MOD04_L2.A2000242.0140.002.2000264223516.hdf, (See the Structural Metadata). These are arrays with rank = 2 and dimensions (203, 135) or with rank = 3 where the third dimension can range fom 2 to 7; 203 is the number of data elements in the "along-track" dimension, and 135 is the number of elements in the "across-track" dimension.

MODIS HDF File Specification MOD04_L2:
MODIS Level 2 Aerosol over Land and Ocean Product
Slope_and_Offset_Usage
The local SDS scale_factor and add_offset attributes are used for the conversion of stored integer data to geophysical floating point numbers. The implementation follows conventional HDF usage (See HDF Users Guide):
float value = scale_factor*(stored integer - add_offset)
The unit of the derived floating point value is indicated in the 'units' local attribute which is also provided.
