AVHRR Oceans Pathfinder Mission
Oceans Pathfinder datasets
are generated by reprocessing Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR)
Global Area Coverage (GAC) data held by NOAA. AVHRR Oceans Pathfinder scientific
data products consist of global sea surface temperature (SST) data. These data
are produced using GAC observations made by the five-channel AVHRR instruments
on NOAA-9, -11 and -14 polar-orbiting satellites. The processing input (AVHRR
Level 1B GAC data) is also a Pathfinder product.
The data consists of

Daily, 8-day, and monthly average data

Time period 1985 to November 20, 1999

Ascending pass (daytime) and descending pass (nighttime)

Equal-area grids of

9 km resolution (4096 pixels/360 degrees)

18 km resolution (2048 pixels/360 degrees)

54 km/0.5 degree resolution (720 pixels/360 degrees)
