Each subset is sample data for 1 month, January 1998. The AVHRR SST Pathfinder granule covers the Earth.

The data presents sea surface temperature at the "height" of an El Niño.


The EOSDIS Data Sampler #3 provides as a sample dataset a granule of the AVHRR Oceans Pathfinder Global Equal-angle Best SST V4.1 (NOAA, NASA) that has The sample was ordered from the EDG, and then downloaded from an FTP site of the JPL Physical Oceanography DAAC (PO.DAAC).

This granule contains the derived geophysical parameter SST, as a binned global grid, along with a grid of the number of observations per bin. The granule also contains 8-bit raster images (SST and observations/bin), and respective image palettes. No geographical subsetting was performed. The grid is 2048 rows by 4096 columns.

The following statement is applicable to 199801h09ma-gdm.hdf.

This release of the AVHRR Oceans Pathfinder Global Equal-angle Best SST V4.1 (NOAA, NASA) product is a validated product.
