After a successful launch in August 1992, the instruments on TOPEX/Poseidon began science operations, following completion of final orbital maneuvers to place it into Earth orbit. The release dates of specific data products depend on the complexity of the product and successful calibration and validation. The data quality from all of TOPEX/Poseidon's sensors appears to be exceptional. Current and subsequent processing of the data will yield enhanced scientific utility.
Teams of scientists worldwide receive the data to perform research in areas of international concern.
Sample Information
The data for the "Monthly Mean Global Surface Ocean Variables" are in raw binary format. Do NOT attempt to print these files! Use the provided Fortran program!
Provided by various instruments on different satellites,
the Monthly Mean Global Surface Ocean Variables dataset consists of monthly mean averages of
The data, documentation, and software are available from the PO.DDAC (see below).
TOPEX/Poseidon SSH data are binary. Do NOT attempt to print these files! Use the provided IDL program!
The SSH 10-day datasets (on 5-day centers) have been corrected for atmospheric effects (ionosphere, wet and dry troposphere), effects due to surface conditions (electromagnetic bias), and other contributions (ocean tides, pole tide, and inverse barometer). In the file name, the year, month, and day are those of the center day, the spatial resolution is 1.0 deg (10d). The data, browse images, and software are available on CD-ROM (see below) or from the PO.DDAC anonymous FTP site (see below).
