Step-by-Step Instructions for Ordering Data from the EDG
- Use the Menu Bar at the top of this page to go to the Data page.
- Click on the How to find & order Terra (EOS AM-1) data link near the bottom of the page.
- In the text below Obtaining Terra Instrument data, click on the link to the EDG.
- At the EOS Data Gateway page, Enter as a guest
(or as a registered user if you have registered earlier).
- Wait for the EDG Primary Data Search page to display.
- Under Choose Search Keywords -- Method 2 , choose SENSOR in the scroll box
and click on the SELECT button.
- On the new page, Keyword Selection: Sensor, under Filters for Sensor:,
select INFRARED SENSORS in the scroll box,
and then click on the Apply button.
- When the Keyword Selection: Sensor page redisplays, from the sensor list select one instrument
(e.g., MISR or MODIS), and then click on the OK! button at the bottom of the EDG page.
- When the EDG Primary Data Search page displays, note that the sensor has been chosen.
- Now choose the Search Area. You can draw on the map, or type in the numbers for a
range in Latitude and Longitude. For the Western U.S. Wildfire data used on this CD-ROM, do the latter:
- Use the mouse to select the Northern data entry box and type in 48.0.
(A minus sign is needed for coordinates south of the Equator.)
- Use the mouse to select the Southern data entry box and type in 42.0.
- Use the mouse to select the Western data entry box and type in -117.0.
The minus sign is needed for coordinates west of Greenwich.
- Use the mouse to select the Eastern data entry box and type in -112.0.
- Now click on the Display lat/ong range on map button. You should see a small red square on the western side of North America.
If not, double check the numbers that you typed in.
- Optional - Choose a Date/Time Range. For the Western U.S. Wildfire data used on this CD-ROM,
select the Start Date data entry box and type in 2000-08-30 and a time of 12:00,
then select the Stop Date box and type in 2000-08-30 [time not needed].
- Now click on the Start Search! button near the bottom of the EDG page.
- Wait for the search to finish! The information in the EDG Search in progress page will keep you informed.
- If the search completes with zero results, check the Data Center Comments for each DAAC.
You may have to rerun the search at a different time.
- If the search is successful and results are being returned, you can wait for the end of the search,
or you can click on the END SEARCH NOW link. Doing the latter will bring up a Stopping search ... page.
- When the search ends, the EDG displays the Results: Data Set: Listing page:
- Link to a Help page is provided.
- Listing or adding granules requires that you first select a data set by clicking in the small toggle box (a check mark will appear).
- The page provides you with information on 10 data sets at a time.
- You can see a different set using the number range boxes at the bottom of the page.
- Each option box provides information about that data set.
- The link to produce a Text only version works for all data sets;
you can clip the results into a word processor or a spreadsheet.
- As an example, click on the toggle box at the front of the row for the data set
MODIS/TERRA CALIBRATED RADIANCES DAILY L1B SWATH 1KM
and then click on the List data granules box near the top of the page.
- The EDG displays the Results: Granule: Listing page, which is similar in format to the previous page.
- Granule metadata (e.g., ID, Start & Stop dates/times, Center Point, Cloud Cover, map coverage, and time coverage)
alow you to chose a data granule.
- Select a granule that includes 30 August 2000, and click on the selection box at the far right.
- Click on the Show map coverage box at the top to see the granule boundaries and the search
boundaries plotted on a globe. (For details, select zoom to 8x and Redraw Map.)
- Each time that you find a granule that matches your criteria, click on the Add.. box
to add this granule to your "shopping cart."
- Before you can order data, you must read and accept the terms of the Data Quality Summary statement.
- The EDG Shopping Cart: page allows you to chose ordering options, or to remove any or all items.
