This Earth Science Enterprise (ESE) is NASA's program to improve understanding about the total Earth system and the effects of natural and human-induced changes on the global environment. ESE supports investigations into: 1) the causes and impacts of long-term climate variability, 2) the global water cycle, 3) the patterns and trends of change in regional land-cover, biodiversity, and global land use, 4) the causes and consequences of changes in atmospheric ozone, and 5) use of remote sensing to characterize disasters and to reduce risks from hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires, volcanoes, floods and droughts.
