Terra Coincident Data for Western U.S. Wildfires on 30 August 2000

The Collage tool does not correctly read the three-dimensional arrays in the MISR and MODIS data sets. To overcome this difficulty, this version of the CD provides in each case three data sets that contain a two-dimensional SDSs. For the MISR L1B2 georectified radiance product (GRP) data sample, the data sets are the three AN blocks (B54, B55, and B56) subset from the AN granule for that swath; they are located in the MISR directory along with "MISR_TER_AN.sub". For the MODIS L1B data sample, the data sets are Band 1 ("Red"), Band 4 ("Green"), and Band 3 ("Blue"); they are located in the MODIS directory along with "subset_MOD02_243.1850.hdf".

60- by 60-km Level 1B multispectral data. Locally clear air allows mapping of burned area and burning "hot spot," as well as other land cover features. This coincident data sample covers the same area as the top center of the MISR block 56.

Subsets of full orbit files (granules). Each subset contains three blocks of data (block numbers 54, 55, and 56). This data sample (coincident with MODIS, CERES and ASTER data samples) includes the U.S. states of Idaho and Montana. This sample shows some of the fires and associated smoke/aerosols.

This subset data sample (coincident with MISR, CERES and ASTER data samples) is centered on the U.S. states of Montana and Idaho and clearly shows the "popcorn" clouds, the major weather front, and lakes and smoke from forest wildfires. Several burning "hot spots" are evident in the thermal bands.
