After a successful
launch in December 1999, Terra instruments began science operations on
February 24, 2000, following completion of final orbital maneuvers to
phase with the orbit of Landsat 7. The release dates of specific data
products depend on the complexity of the product and successful calibration
and validation. The data quality from all Terra's sensors appears to be
exceptional. Current and subsequent processing of the data will yield
enhanced scientific utility.
Teams of scientists
worldwide have already been selected to receive the data to perform research
in areas of international concern. Additionally, EOS data and products
will be available to all users, without restriction, at no more than the
cost of dissemination, regardless of the intended use.
