Measurements of Pollution in the Troposphere (MOPITT) is Canada's first major instrument to measure pollution of the Earth's atmosphere from space. During the five-year Terra mission, MOPITT will continuously scan the atmosphere below it to provide the world with the first long-term, global measurements of carbon monoxide and methane gas in the lower atmosphere. Measurements of carbon monoxide and methane in this region have so far been quite limited and localized. Together with other EOS measurements, the MOPITT data will help form the first long-term integrated measurements of the Earth's land, air, water and life processes. The database will be used by scientists to predict long-term effects of pollution, understand the increase of ozone in the lower atmosphere, and guide the evaluation and application of shorter-term pollution controls. MOPITT instrument data are NOT provided on this CD-ROM. Information about MOPITT instrument data in general.
